Scott steps into the room and, of course, he notices the gun. He does have a weapon in his face, though, and maybe more importantly Holden is Jedao's warden which implies a certain fondness of weaponry.
So, yeah, it's fair enough. It makes him a little wary - wearing glasses his options for defense are limited - but it's also the barge. Even if he didn't like Holden and trust him enough not to shoot him, he isn't exactly going to suffer lasting consequences from being shot.
Probably, anyway. New barge may have new rules, but he's pretty sure, all the same.
He nods slightly, but. "Do you believe it can be beaten with your deal?"
"It's called the protomolecule," he says. "It takes things apart and puts them back together in really fucked-up ways, and when I say 'things', I mean people too." He doesn't close his eyes, though he wants to, because he knows what he'll see. He focuses on Scott, instead. "It's so far beyond us that nobody can explain or describe what exactly it's supposed to do. And it got slung at our solar system in a big hunk of rock a few billion years ago."
He shifts, resting elbows on his knees. "There's nothing to beat," he says, exhausted, suddenly. "We're killing each other. I'd settle for just surviving it."
There are so many things he wants to ask, and some points he... wishes he were the kind of person who could, and would, still argue those points with Holden.

He leans back, rubs at his forehead.

They've been over that, though.
"What's your deal with the Admiral?"
